Avalaunchapp distinguishes unlocked value from implied value in vesting positions

Avalaunchapp shows unlocked value for tokens that have reached claimability and implied value for the allocation’s claimable and vesting tokens. These figures overlap within the same IDO allocation. The release schedule determines availability, while a marketplace listing sets the terms for selling a future claim.

In short: Buying a vesting portion transfers its future claim while preserving the release date attached to those tokens.

Token counts and value figures use different units

Total Token Position describes the number of project tokens across unlocked and vesting portions. A value figure expresses a valuation of the tokens within its scope. Counting tokens and valuing them answer different questions: a position can contain the same number of tokens despite a change in their price. Keep the project token’s unit separate from any currency used to express its value.

Implied value includes both the claimable and vesting parts of the allocation. Unlocked value covers tokens that have been or are currently claimable. The distinction concerns availability within the position, rather than two separate holdings that should be added together. Adding unlocked value to implied value would count the claimable component twice when both figures cover the same allocation and valuation basis.

What changes when a vesting portion unlocks?

An unlock makes the scheduled portion claimable; claiming then collects those available tokens. The remaining portions retain their own release dates.

Consider a hypothetical allocation with marketplace support and two vesting portions: one unlocks at the token generation event (TGE), and the other unlocks 30 days later. These dates belong to this allocation; other positions can follow different vesting schedules. The allocation contains both portions before either one unlocks.

At TGE, the first portion reaches claimability, while the later portion remains locked. Holding both portions across that boundary doesn’t create additional project tokens. With the token quantity and valuation price unchanged, the event changes how much of the allocation is available to claim. Implied value continues to encompass the claimable and still-vesting components.

Overview: What changes when a vesting portion unlocks?
Position choice What the choice concerns Portion and scheduled unlock
Leave the first portion unclaimed Available tokens awaiting collection First portion, unlocked at TGE
Claim the first portion Collection of available project tokens First portion, unlocked at TGE
Retain the later portion Continued ownership of a future claim Later portion, unlocking 30 days after TGE
Sell the later portion Transfer of the future claim to a buyer Later portion, unlocking 30 days after TGE
Buy a listed later portion Acquisition of the right to claim at unlock Later portion, unlocking 30 days after TGE

Including the later portion in a total valuation doesn’t make it claimable alongside the first portion.

If the holder sells the later portion, the buyer acquires that portion’s future claim. The original holder can retain the first portion. The later portion keeps its scheduled unlock, so the trade changes ownership without bringing the release date forward.

Each release date applies to a particular portion

The release schedule identifies individual unlocks, while the vesting duration describes the span over which releases occur. A duration alone doesn’t establish how many tokens become available on a particular date. An allocation can contain several future portions with different release dates, and the marketplace permits combinations of those future unlocks. The dates and quantities attached to the selected portions determine what their holder can eventually claim.

Listing prices value a sale of future claims

A listing price concerns the future claim offered for sale, which may cover only part of an allocation. The marketplace lets a holder retain selected portions and offer others to buyers. User supply and demand determine marketplace prices. A seller can offer a locked portion at a discount because the buyer must wait for access to its underlying tokens.

A discounted asking price changes what the seller requests, while the portion’s token quantity stays the same. A dashboard valuation therefore doesn’t establish the price at which another participant will buy a particular portion. Nor does the existence of a listing establish that a buyer has acquired it. The purchase transfers the right to claim the listed tokens when their scheduled unlock arrives.

Claimability and wallet receipt describe different states

Unlocked value identifies tokens that have reached claimability; a completed claim establishes collection of those tokens. The label includes tokens that have been claimable as well as tokens currently claimable. It therefore doesn’t, by itself, establish the amount already received in a wallet.

Marketplace support has a historical boundary

Sales before the Deepwaters IDO in February 2023 don’t support the vesting marketplace. A position’s vesting schedule therefore doesn’t automatically establish that its holder can trade those future claims through this marketplace. The release schedule and marketplace support answer separate questions. For an older allocation, the existence of locked tokens alone cannot establish access to the selling choices in the illustration.

A useful price comparison starts with matching portions

An asking price for one future portion and an implied value for the entire allocation cover different quantities. Their difference alone doesn’t measure the discount on that portion. Compare the same project token, token quantity, and claim rights in a common valuation unit. The portion’s release date also matters because it determines when its buyer can collect the underlying tokens.

Retaining part of an allocation makes this distinction especially relevant: the listed portion may represent only selected future unlocks. A full-position figure includes a broader set of tokens. Choose whether the question concerns the whole holding or the specific claim offered for sale, then match the price to that quantity and its release schedule.
